Markéta Mališová was elected the new chairwoman of the Czech Center of the International PEN Club

On May 11th, 2022, the twelve-member committee of the Czech PEN Club elected a new chairwoman Markéta Mališová, a publisher and publicist, who was a director of the Franz Kafka Society until 2018.

She graduated from the Faculty of Science at Charles University, worked in Short Film and devoted herself to her own documentary films. She made films about Czech-German relations, portraits of František Kupka and Angel Waldstein, a cycle about Prague galleries and museums, a documentary about the establishment of the Kampa Museum and more. Since 2002, she has run the Franz Kafka Center and Publishing House. She publishes in various magazines and is the author of many texts about Franz Kafka and interviews with Arnošt Lustig. She has also collaborated with him on many books, two of which as a co-author. She published two of Lustig's novels in Czech-English-Hebrew versions.

"I very much appreciate the result of the election of the PE club committee members. It will be an opportunity for me to follow up on the work of my predecessor," commented Markéta Mališová. Jiří Dědeček, songwriter, poet, lyricist, translator, writer and author of numerous radio and television programs will perform the function of the first vice-president. Ondřej Vaculík, a journalist, documentary filmmaker, columnist, commentator and municipal politician, was elected second vice-chairman.
